Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old from Long Beach California. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise when she was a kid. Aunt Denise worked during the night shift as a nurse, so she could indulge her passion of theater and literature in the daytime. DuVernay enjoyed the movie West Side Story, which she brought to her. The father of DuVernay's recollects seeing the historic march of Civil Rights Movement over the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was held in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. The time spent in Selma, Alabama during the summer, was later the inspiration to direct a movie about The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay graduated with a high school diploma from Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles following her graduation, and received degrees in English as well as African American Studies. As in school, DuVernay was interested in creating for the broadcast media. She began her career as an assistant to CBS News in the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to observe the house of one member of the jury as well as look through their trash. After being disappointed in journalistic work by the assignments she was handed and deciding to go after an interest in public relations. DuVernay found a job immediately after college as a publicist in the young age of a studio. She was hired in 1999 and established her own company of public relations called The DuVernay Agency. The company launched a number of promotions and lifestyle channels, including Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
